Superfine rods & Superfine browns

We made Orvis News once again. This time with a video we made after a wonderful day. We had the doorbell ring, opened the boxes to our new Orvis Superfine rods, put the new line on... and looked at each other and said "let's go!". We just had a fun day, loved the rods, the video turned out well, and we caught some nice fish so we decided to put a video together. Hope you enjoy.

Rocky Mtn Hse area lakes update

An interesting note from the fisheries folks in Rocky Mtn House. It lines up with exactly what I've been saying all along on the forums: these lakes are an ongoing work in progress and staff are doing as much as they can with the resources and procedures available to them.
From Rocky Konynenbelt, RMH:
" ...for monitoring Beaver Lake this year, we conducted test-netting in the spring. We wanted a clear picture of fish population status to confirm or refute the suspicion that there was < 5% of trout > 50 cm. The netting results were fairly close to what we’ve documented by angling, confirming that we need to proceed with a regulation change for 2013 in order to reduce trout harvest and to bring Beaver Lake back on track as a Quality Stocked Fishery. With that in mind, please see the information and regulation options at the website below, and to take the online survey:
http://www.mywildalberta.com/Fishing/StockingReports/BeaverLakeQSFSurvey.aspx
The results of that online survey will become part of the public consultation necessary for the selection of which regulation option the majority of anglers support toward the desired fishery objectives. Many of you will know that an angler survey is being done at the three QSF lakes this summer, and that a subsample of anglers at Beaver Lake are being asked the same questions found at the online survey. Those interviews at Beaver Lake will also become part of the public consultation.
We also test-netted Ironside Pond this spring, and while QSF objectives are still being met (11% of trout > 50 cm), fish numbers remain very low in spite of increased stocking to offset the high level of predation. We’re keeping an eye on that fishery to ensure it continues to meet QSF objectives and a reasonable catch rate.

Urgent Mid Season Reg Change - Upper Red Deer R

Message from Alberta Fish & Wildlife Division

Fishery restriction on Red Deer River and tributaries

This email is to inform anglers that starting August 7, 2012, fishing upstream of Dickson Dam on the Red Deer River and its tributaries will be restricted to catch-and-release only for the remainder of the season.
A zero harvest restriction is in place as a precautionary measure, as government experts will be conducting a population sampling program to determine if there were any impacts to fish stocks in the waterways as a result of a pipeline spill in early June.
Anglers will not be allowed to harvest fish upstream of the Dickson Dam, including Gleniffer Reservoir and Dickson Trout Pond. The area includes the main-stem of the Red Deer River from Gleniffer Lake to the Banff National Park boundary, and all flowing tributary waters.
Angler harvest in the affected area is still permitted in Burnstick Lake and in the following stocked trout lakes and ponds:
• Beaver Lake,
• Dormer Lake,
• Eagle Lake,
• Birch Lake, and
• Yellowhead Lake.
Specific regulations still apply, which can be found in the Alberta 2012 Sportfishing Regulations.
More information, including maps of the affected area, will be available after 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3 at www.mywildalberta.ca
